Technical Product Manager (m/f/d - Berlin)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Berlin/Remote

What is Yaak?
Yaak is developing a driver coaching platform (SafetyOS) that prioritizes safety. Partnering with our driving school customers around the world, we codify into SafetyOS their decades of experience in scoring, detecting, explaining and correcting human driving. We actually don't do anything with yaks.
Why human driving?
The year 2007 heralded new possibilities in autonomous driving. The excitement wasn't unfounded of course. We had solved driving in the rugged terrain of the Mojave Desert, with no internet connection and without supervision. Full Self-Driving seemed like a few years away. A decade, a deep learning revolution, and many $B later we are still waiting for it, if/when it's unaffordable.

At Yaak we asked ourselves how to go about building AI that is provably safe. How can we bake trust into it from grounds up? Instead of building a classic AV stack, why not build a safety-first driving platform that can score, detect, explain and correct human driving with high precision before it's allowed on public roads.
The Role

Yaak is looking for a Technical Product Manager who is passionate about teaching humans and machines how to drive safely. We have just successfully delivered our safe driving product to the first driving schools, reimagining how people learn how to drive. To go from here, we need to further design, build, validate and scale our product components, that include 3D simulation, AI / Data products, internal tools, instructor/student facing tools, hardware and vehicle integration, among others.

We don't expect you to have experience with all elements of our products. Your product experience is likely from a software and data defined product that has slightly more complex release cycles than a web app. It can be from Gaming, VR, Education Tech, Robotics, AI, Consumer Electronics or similar.

As a Technical Product Manager, you will help paint a detailed picture for our engineering team, contributing to our vision and roadmap and deriving technical and market-informed requirements for execution by Yaak's design, mechanic and engineering teams. Success in this role will help accelerate the expansion of our market and catalyze the transformational benefits of self-driving vehicles.

You report to the Head of Product and will also support in conducting regular product meetings with senior management in the company.

The ideal candidate is either located in, or willing to relocate to Berlin.
Other than this, you won't see hard requirements here for certain degrees or exact years of experience because we know everyone has their own unique journey. If you're brilliant at your craft, and are either an experienced collaborator or motivated to learn and excel at it, we'll know it when we see it.

You will:

  • Map technical capabilities with improvements to product or customer value (including internal software teams) to further shape and prioritize the development roadmap

  • Consult with UI/UX and design team to continuously support delivery of a coherent product experience across vehicle, HW and SW touchpoints

  • Define key measurements for success of your efforts, and analyze metrics to contribute to the success of Yaak products overall

  • Facilitate the shaping and clear communication of goals for the team’s product strategy, roadmap, plans, and priorities to stakeholders and leadership

  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders (both internally and externally, i.e. customers or suppliers) in order to facilitate well-informed decisions

Big plus for:

  • B2 level German skills or above to be able to interact with our German-speaking customer base

  • Deep experience in product development of complex systems across multiple domains

  • Experience with software being deployed on non mainstream hardware or somehow being constrained by hardware

  • Valid class B drivers license

Bonus points for:

  • Extensive Atlassian JIRA & Confluence knowledge

  • Competitive compensation package with employee stock options program
  • Yearly public transport ticket and mobility bonus
  • Flexible work-from-home policy (even when the world is pandemic-free)
  • Quarterly off-site somewhere in the world, to regroup with the team and plan
  • Work in an international team full of talented, chill and cooky people
  • Visa and relocation support

Distributed-first perks

  • Free access to corporate apartment in Berlin (Yaak HQ)
  • Company credit card for managing regular travel to Yaak HQ
Diversity in Tech
Yaak is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion. We want you on our team — no matter your ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or if you’re currently parenting the next world leader. It's our belief that the best work gets done when one feels appreciated, supported and are their most authentic self.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
